Gay Wedding Photographer London
Relaxed, Documentary Photography for Gay Weddings
If you’re planning a gay wedding in London and want photography that feels natural rather than staged, you’re in the right place. You can also read more about my approach to LGBTQ wedding photography in London.
I’m Jon, a London-based wedding photographer specialising in documentary coverage of town hall ceremonies, registry office weddings and relaxed city celebrations. I photograph gay weddings regularly across London, from small midweek ceremonies to larger venue celebrations.
My approach is simple: I observe the day as it unfolds and capture what’s actually happening.
No awkward posing.
No forced moments.
No turning your wedding into a photoshoot.
Just honest photography of a day that means something to you.

Gay Weddings in London
London has been one of the most welcoming places in the world for LGBTQ couples to marry since the legalisation of same-sex marriage in the UK following the Marriage (Same Sex Couples) Act 2013.
Today the city hosts hundreds of gay weddings every year, ranging from quiet registry office ceremonies to full-day celebrations in historic venues.
Many couples choose town hall weddings because they are:
relaxed
personal
easy to organise
right in the middle of the city
That suits documentary wedding photography perfectly.
The best moments often happen naturally - outside the ceremony room, on the steps afterwards, or during drinks with friends and family.
Popular London Venues for Gay Weddings
Many gay weddings in London take place at registry offices and historic town halls.
Some of the venues I regularly photograph include:
These venues work beautifully for documentary photography because ceremonies are intimate and reactions happen quickly.
Confetti moments, hugs outside the entrance, and spontaneous celebrations often produce the most memorable photos.
Two Grooms, One Wedding
Every couple approaches their wedding differently.
Some grooms get ready together.
Some prefer separate preparations before meeting at the ceremony.
Some walk down the aisle side by side.
Others enter separately.
Some keep traditional elements like speeches and first dances.
Others skip them entirely.
There isn’t a standard template for a gay wedding - and there doesn’t need to be.
My role is simply to document the day honestly, without assumptions about how it should look.
Documentary Wedding Photography
Documentary wedding photography means I don’t direct your day.
Instead I focus on:
reactions during the ceremony
the way guests interact
the energy outside the venue afterwards
the moments you don’t notice happening
That approach works especially well for smaller London weddings where the atmosphere is relaxed and personal.
You get photographs that feel real, not manufactured.
Real Gay Weddings in London
Many of the weddings featured on my site are real same-sex weddings across London.
From ceremonies at Old Marylebone Town Hall to celebrations in Greenwich and Peckham, each one reflects a couple doing their wedding their own way.
You can explore some of those weddings here:
Real weddings at London town halls
Same-sex weddings in Greenwich
Registry office ceremonies across the city
Every wedding is different, but the goal stays the same: capture the moments that actually matter.
Short Coverage for London Registry Office Weddings
Many gay weddings in London are shorter celebrations.
A ceremony at a town hall followed by drinks or lunch nearby is a popular option.
That’s why I offer shorter coverage options (1-4 hours), ideal for:
registry office weddings
civil partnerships
micro weddings
small celebrations with close friends and family
You still get professional documentary wedding photography - just without paying for hours you don’t need.
