Same-Sex Wedding Photographer London

Relaxed Documentary Wedding Photography

If you’re planning a same-sex wedding in London and want photography that feels natural rather than staged, you’re in the right place.

I’m Jon, a London wedding photographer specialising in documentary coverage of town hall ceremonies, registry office weddings and relaxed city celebrations.

I photograph same-sex weddings regularly across London, from small midweek ceremonies to larger venue celebrations. My approach is simple: observe what’s happening and capture it honestly.

No awkward posing.
No assumptions about roles.
No turning your wedding into a production.

Just real moments as your day unfolds.

If you're specifically planning a gay wedding in London, I’ve also written a guide about that here.

Same-Sex Weddings in London

London has become one of the most popular places in the UK for same-sex weddings since the legalisation of marriage equality under the Marriage (Same Sex Couples) Act 2013.

Every week couples marry across the city in:

  • registry offices

  • historic town halls

  • London venues

  • small city celebrations

Some weddings are large celebrations. Others are small ceremonies followed by lunch with friends.

There isn’t one way to have a same-sex wedding.

That’s part of what makes them interesting to photograph.

Two Brides, Two Grooms, or Something Else Entirely

One of the things I like most about same-sex weddings is that couples often feel free to do things their own way.

Sometimes both partners get ready together.
Sometimes they meet for the first time at the ceremony.

Sometimes couples walk down the aisle side by side.
Sometimes they arrive separately.

Wedding parties might include friends instead of traditional roles. Or there may be no wedding party at all.

The structure of the day is often much more flexible - which suits documentary photography perfectly.

Documentary Wedding Photography

Documentary wedding photography means I don’t try to control the day.

Instead I focus on moments like:

  • the nerves before the ceremony

  • the look you give each other during the vows

  • reactions from friends and family

  • the chaos of confetti outside the venue

Those moments can’t be staged.

They happen naturally - and that’s what I’m there to capture.

London Venues for Same-Sex Weddings

Many same-sex weddings in London take place at town halls and registry offices.

Some of the venues I photograph most often include:

These venues are ideal for documentary coverage because ceremonies are intimate and moments unfold quickly.

Guests gather close together.
Reactions happen fast.
And the energy outside the venue afterwards is often brilliant.

Real Same-Sex Weddings

Many of the weddings featured on my site are real same-sex weddings photographed across London.

From ceremonies at Old Marylebone Town Hall to celebrations in Greenwich and South London, each wedding reflects a couple doing things their own way.

You can explore more of those weddings throughout the site.

Short Coverage for Registry Office Weddings

Many same-sex weddings in London are shorter celebrations.

A ceremony at a town hall followed by drinks or lunch nearby is a popular format.

I offer 1–4 hour coverage options that work well for:

  • registry office ceremonies

  • civil partnerships

  • micro weddings

  • small celebrations with close friends and family

You still get documentary wedding photography - just without paying for hours you don’t need.
